Types of Concrete
Concrete comes in a variety of finishes and colors. It can also be either flat like driveways or shaped into three-dimensional objects like steps or curbs. The most common types of concrete finishes are broom, hand, Stamp Concrete (Specialty Concrete) or also know as Decorative Concrete, Colored Concrete, Acid Stained Concrete & Exposed Aggregate.
Site Preparation/Excavation & Grading
Concrete is often the base foundation of most structures. Proper site preparation is necessary to ensure a solid foundation and a beautiful lasting finish. MSA’s top of the line equipment handles the removal of old concrete or pavers. Removing concrete or paving material is difficult work. Often it’s best to leave this to the professionals like us who will have proper equipment and training to handle the removal. When we begin a project, we carefully excavate to remove any tree roots, rocks and debris. The ground is then leveled and compacted firmly to ensure a solid base for your concrete project. Preparing the foundation for your new concrete project is the most important step to ensure that concrete slabs will not crack and have proper drainage. We also install steel rebar within the concrete to make the concrete structure stronger.
Stamp Concrete / Decorative Concrete
Stamped concrete is a specialty concrete that has become very popular for its beauty and inexpensiveness in comparison to pavers. Stamp Concrete is also known a Decorative Concrete or Patterned Concrete. Since it is a specialty, Stamp Concrete it is therefore more expensive than regular or exposed aggregate concrete, however it’s investment is well worth it. Concrete can be stained to any color and stamped to simulate other materials and designs such as natural stone (granite, slate, cobblestone, etc.) or brick at about half the cost of using the real thing. This concrete finish is solid and long lasting. Stamp concrete comes in a variety of colors to choose from. This is accomplished by adding dyes to the cement mixture. Stamp Concrete VS Pavers
Stamped concrete is a cheaper alternative to pavers. With pavers, you run the risk of weeds sprouting in between. Pavers are also more expensive than concrete, have a tendency to shift and require more maintenance. Unlike pavers, with stamped concrete only concrete is used so there is less invested in materials and labor.
Regular and Stamped Concrete projects should be maintained every 2-3 years. Periodic surface sealing is the best way to protect your concrete from moisture penetration and to protect the color and sheen from fading. This can be done with a simple process of just mopping on a coat of sealer. Sealers and waxes may need to be reapplied more frequently if there is a lot of traffic. It is also recommended that you don’t allow debris to sit for long periods of time on any area of the surface to protect it from stains.
